So, I've been a little quiet on my blog and Facebook and there's a great reason why. I have kind of a lot to catch you up on. Like, a lot a lot. I figure the best way to do so (given my already, shall we say, wordy tendency) is to break this into two different posts. So stay tuned for part 2 on Monday.
If you follow me on social media, you've already seen the teaser I released regarding a new company I've launched with the lovely Kelly Lewis of Kelly Is Nice Photography (pictured below-isn't she gorgeous!?!?) Our company is called Brides & Dolls and we specialize in providing a high-end wedding photography experience that goes far beyond just gorgeous photos. (Side note: Isn't that name adorable!?!? Kelly gets total kudos for coming up with it!)
How and why did this come about, you ask? Well, I launched Meagan O Photography back in November of 2010 as a wedding photography company. Six months after that, I was able to quit my last day job and go full time with photography. Through the next few years, I was blessed to work with the most incredible clients and capture thousands of beautiful moments for them. Around January 2012, I got to the point where I really couldn't take on any additional weddings each year. Well, that's not true. I could have taken more weddings, but at the expense of my customer service-which remains my primary goal within my business. I also didn't want to tip the work/life balance I've worked so diligently to protect and maintain. Y'all have seen my hot husband-gotta make time for those dimples!
That said, I realized I wasn't going to be able to feasibly add more clients and weddings to my workload without it costing me somewhere else. I then looked into hiring help, but I never found someone who was the right fit. At the same time, I was growing more and more in love with photographing women for glamorous portraits, but I just didn't have the time to market and grow that side of my photography. So, I continued to shoot the weddings I love and I took as many glamour & boudoir clients as I could on the side.
Then, it happened. On June 7, 2014, I asked Kelly if she could shoot a wedding with me. My original 2nd shooter had something come up last minute and though Kelly owns her own business, she came along and helped me out. She's an incredible photographer. In fact, she was actually my wedding photographer! How's that for an endorsement!? We had so much fun shooting that Charleston wedding that I remember driving home and jokingly mentioning to her that we should just make a new company and shoot weddings together all the time! Little did I know...
I invited her to shoot a few more weddings with me and I continued to marvel at how well we worked together. Then, as I began editing the images from those weddings, it became clear how perfectly we compliment one another with our differing shooting styles. My strength resides in my ability to capture the real, candid moments as they happen and my outgoing personality during the wedding day. Kelly's strengths are in covering all those gorgeous wedding details flawlessly and her romantic, creative ability to pose her brides so they look like they belong on the cover of a magazine. We really are the yin to each other's yang.
The other thing that I love about Kelly is that she cares every bit as much as I do that the bride not only gets gorgeous images, but that her wedding day experience is everything she dreamt it would be. There are plenty of photographers who aren't concerned with putting their client at ease, or making sure they're enjoying the picture taking process (something that accounts for hours of your wedding day). Working with someone who is consistently upbeat, positive and caring makes such a difference. And Kelly has positivity in spades.
It was from this place that Brides & Dolls was born. Oh, but don't you worry. Meagan O Photography isn't going anywhere (which I'll detail further on Monday-so stay tuned!) Please check out our site and like our Facebook page if you want to watch our crazy wedding adventures unfold! (Seriously. You should do this! And today is Kelly's birthday, so you can make that a present to her!) At the very least, it will be gorgeously entertaining!
Catch ya later, doll! :-)
