Why Is Boudoir Scary?

I definitely hear you on this one. Why is it so scary? It can honestly be positively nerve-wracking. Possibly because it’s the same feeling you get when you’re going to be trying on bathing suits, only it’s not bathing suits, it’s underwear. And there will be photographic evidence…yikes! Yeah, I can see why there’s fear there. But really, it just comes down to the questions.

What if I hate how I look? What if I don’t bring the right lingerie? What if I really am not sexy? What if I can’t do it? And on and on…

I did my own boudoir session in 2021 and was reminded myself how it feels. And I wasn’t even nervous about the being half naked part! For me, I’d hired an awesome photographer in Washington DC (shoutout to Julie Socher!). I flew out for the shoot and SO many things happened. I woke up the morning I was supposed to fly out with one eye nearly swollen shut for no reason (wtf!?). I spent a ton on lingerie and some didn’t come in time. I really wanted a bold makeup look, but was a little worried I wouldn’t love it. And the list of the thoughts that swirled around in my head goes on. It really reminded me of what my clients email me about all the time. And the reality is, as I tell my clients all the time, there was truly nothing to worry about.

Women in general manage their life around all the thing that are happening and all of the things that might happen. Just look in your purse right now. I bet you are prepared for lots of circumstances. In my purse, I currently have some nail glue and file in case one of mine breaks, a snack in case I get hungry, some gum in case that coffee breath lingers, medicine in case I get a headache and so many other things. Typically, our ability to enjoy the moment/experience is directly tied to how prepared we are for it. And the thing is, your first boudoir session is going to be what Brene Brown calls an “FFT”. It stands for F***ing First Time. Meaning, you won’t intrinsically know what to expect and how to plan/prepare. *Cue the building, scary music*

Luckily, we’ve got you!!! For me, your ability to enjoy the entire process is directly tied to how much information you get answered between the time you decide you want to book to when you receive your images. It’s one of the reasons I am so long winded in these blog posts and on my website. It’s also why I’m completely willing to do consultations or jump on the phone to go over as many details as possible. So that the questions in your head have answers, which frees you up to get super pumped about how the session is going to feel for you. How stunning, sexy and confident you’re going to feel when you leave the studio after your shoot and how your jaw will drop when you see how absolutely incredible you look in your photos!!!! If you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers so don’t hesitate to ask!
