Destination Boudoir: The Truth

If you’ve hung around here at all, it’s no secret that I LOVE travel. From far-flung, exotic destinations halfway around the world, to close-by, day trip adventures—I love it all! I also LOVE when I get to travel AND shoot boudoir sessions. Particularly if it’s a super cool airbnb or an amazing landscape!!! I love the challenge of it. Coming up with ideas on the fly and letting my creativity play with the environment. Plus, watching my clients experience posing in front of incredible landscapes…sigh…It feeds my little artist’s soul!

That said, there are some things to keep in mind if you plan on booking a destination boudoir session with me. First, know that I am not completely in control of the environment, which is always something we discuss prior to your session. For example, on the black sand beach in Iceland, I knew there would be people on the beach and there was no way to get the epic landscape in complete privacy. So, my client and I discussed options ahead of time that she would feel comfortable potentially being seen wearing in public.

The unpredictability is also a huge bonus. For example, these photos were shot on Jekyll Island back in July, and the storm that started to sweep in made for the most stunning, epic backdrop. I had about 23 mins of shooting time between the torrential rain and sunset, but my client trusted me as we sat in the car waiting for the sun to peek below the horizon. Which brings me to my next point, having a positive attitude is a must. This client was game to get completely soaking wet for those sunset pictures (as was I!) and the images speak for themselves.

I had another client I went with to Indonesia to shoot on a pink sand beach. I was so pumped about those shots and even sourced a special dress for her to wear that took up half of my suitcase, lol! We took the boat out to the island, giddy with excitement, only to discover that the “pink sand beach” was barely blush. All of the photos we had seen had been so heavily photoshopped, we were both super bummed. BUT on the way back to the boat, the crew had the sails out and I got, what we call, a “crazy Meagan-idea.” We ended up posing her on the front of the boat and the pictures we got absolutely blew me away.

Now, don’t get me wrong, for all destination boudoir sessions, we sit down at length and discuss a plan that will get you the best images ever. I always book a place indoors, so no matter what the weather does, we have a space to shoot. And I typically show up a day or two early to scout our outdoor opportunities. But if the "“travel magic” finds us and we have to pivot the plan, the photos that come from those moments remain some of my favorite I’ve ever taken.

If you’re wondering how to hire me to travel, there are three options:

1) You can hire me directly to shoot you in your city/destination of your choice. This option is my regular rate + travel & lodging, which would be a custom price.

2) You can watch for when I do destination weekends throughout the year. I started doing themed traveling weekends this year and there will be more to come! For example, we’re headed to San Diego to shoot in an awesome Airbnb that looks like you’re in Greece September 27-30th. To stay informed, joining our newsletter will keep you up-to-date on all upcoming travel.

3) You can join one of my international trips. I occasionally host international trips with a travel company. They are all-female, small groups and it’s typically one lump sum that includes the entire itinerary. A boudoir session is one of the activities we do one day that we’re there. We are planning the return of these trips in 2025, so be sure to sign up for the newsletter to learn where we're headed next!

Traveling boudoir sessions are my absolute favorite. They are adventurous, exciting and it’s even more amazing to have photos that represent a stunning place you got to experience! Plus, feeling empowered and gorgeous while being somewhere magical just can’t be beat. Every woman should get to experience it at least once in their lifetime!
