Fave client: Women 50+

COMING TO: SANTA BARBARA APRIL 11-14, 2024 & SAN DIEGO SEPTEMBER 28-OCTOBER 2, 2024

Ok, y’all know I have deep love for ALL of my clients, but my faves are typically my clients over 50. My clients in their 20s-40s are amazing and we have so much fun at their sessions. BUT, they often have felt beautiful and connected to their sexuality more recently at that age. Maybe they just got married or get dolled up on occasion to go out. Meaning, of course it makes them feel good to feel beautiful from their boudoir session, but they remember the feeling.

Some of my 50+ women haven’t felt stunningly gorgeous in decades. They’ve been busy being everything to everyone around them for 20+ years (kids, partners, job) and they sometimes will shelve their sexuality as something for younger women to enjoy. Which means, when they get to see how sexy, vivacious, elegant, alluring and stunning they are, their boudoir images have even more impact on their life. They are my clients who are more likely to cry at their reveal. It’s like they know that gorgeous woman in the picture so well, but they haven't connected to her in a while. It’s a homecoming of sorts.

I had an interesting conversation with a woman just a few weeks ago. She’s a woman who has been following my work for a while, but hasn’t pulled the trigger and booked her own session yet. I always just assumed she wasn't interested, but I finally asked her about it and her response shocked me.

“Well, I’m 48,” she replied.

48…? …AND?? Easily over half my clients are in their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s! I looked at her and asked who she thinks boudoir is for and she basically laid out that it was for women in their 20s & 30s, and maybe those approaching or around 40. Dude. Or, Dudette. That is SO not how I view women over 50. But it’s clearly how society attempts to view them. When you Google “women over 50” it tries to correct it to “life after 50 for a woman”, followed by “50 year old female body changes”, and finally “beautiful women over 50.” Meaning, the overall takeaway is being a 50+ year old woman in the US is equivalent to life changes, body changes and questions about your beauty in it all.

What I find fascinating is that women over 50 are referred to as “super consumers” and their spending power exceeds 15 trillion annually. And yet, what ads do they typically see? Clap on, clap off lights? Ads to smooth every wrinkle? Ads for medication? Meanwhile, they are the #1 purchaser of fine lingerie in the world. The #1 purchaser of luxurious vacations to exotic places. Clearly, the demographic is just beginning to live, not gearing up to die! They know who they are, are solid in their lives with their friends and families and they are leaning into what it really means to THRIVE. I can’t wait to be a women over 50. It is clearly one of the best times in your life!

The take away: YOU ARE NEVER “TOO OLD” FOR BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY!!!! And if you hear that nonsense from anyone else, know that this photographer would freaking LOVE to capture you in one of the most gorgeous seasons of your life!!! <3
