She wants to fly

Life is a journey. It’s full of moments of celebration and confetti as well as heart-wrenching grief. There are places to see, people to meet, things to create and every emotion under the sun to experience. During some seasons, you may stand steadily at the helm of your own ship, steering with confidence and choosing your own destiny. [It usually helps if you’ve had quite a bit of therapy, lol!] However, there are also the seasons where all of the paths that were laid so clearly before you become fuzzy or disappear altogether. Maybe somewhere along the way, your path was not your own and the fire of personal freedom inside you continued to dwindle and fade. Maybe the dim light remaining, the echo of your true self, gave you the strength to continue along the path-even if you weren’t sure where it was leading.

Then one day, the seas become calm again and you begin to rekindle the fire within. You finally see the hope of new beginnings and take back control of your journey. Now, you stand at the crossroads of who you were and who you have become. The person in the mirror is both familiar and foreign at the same time. You long to reach for the familiar version you were before, but the truest part of you beckons to be seen and known. She whispers that maybe something even more amazing was forged in the darkness.

It’s time to lean into the beckoning. To answer the call. To make more space for the woman rising from the ashes. To grow and expand to give her space to spread her wings as far as they can stretch. I know it’s terrifying to release our old ways of viewing ourselves. To let go of the lane we thought we’d always ride in. To get comfortable with the fact that we’re different. To release the fear that the new person will somehow be more broken than the version before. But the woman waiting to be discovered will be so worth it. She will impress you. She will shock you. She will love you. She will come rushing forth with a power you’ve never experienced and you’ll see that she was really there all along. She IS you.

She doesn’t want to stay in her lane. She doesn’t want to be steered across open waters.

She wants to do what she was built to do. She wants to fly.
