The Gift of Boudoir

Many of my clients come to me because they are gifting their images to a significant other. I will always shout from the rooftops that they will get more out of it than the person they’re doing it for, but that doesn’t mean it’s not an absolutely amazing gift to give.

There’s the obvious reason-I mean, boudoir pictures are pretty much always a crowd-pleaser, lol! But the thing that makes it even more than a gift is the vulnerability it takes to contact me, book a session, buy lingerie and then walk through my door. My clients who have been with their partners for a significant period of time aren’t just gifting pretty photos. They are gifting bravery, vulnerability, and authenticity. The cost of the photos goes far beyond a present. And your significant other knows that.

Typically, in a committed, healthy relationship, partners compliment each other. They are the first to say, “Wow! You look great tonight!” or “I love that outfit on you!” Unfortunately, all too often, that’s met with a dismissal of the compliment. We cast our eyes down and respond with, “Well, it used to look better when I was skinnier” or “Ugh. I hate this shirt.” We collectively aren’t the best at receiving those moments and compliments.

Which is why I LOVE when my clients bring their significant others back with them to choose the images together. Every time they say something to the effect of, “Thank you for showing her how I see her all the time.” As they look through the images they know the sacrifice it took to be brave enough to do the session in the first place. It’s so much more than the pictures. It’s stepping outside of your comfort zone in order to love someone you love in a new, beautiful way.
